Complete Care for Your Pet’s First Year

Welcoming a new puppy or kitten into your home is exciting, and it’s also the beginning of an important journey in their health and development. Queen City Veterinary Clinic supports pet owners like you with comprehensive veterinary services for puppies and kittens in Cincinnati. From their first vaccinations to building healthy routines, we provide everything your young companion needs to grow up strong. Starting veterinary care early builds confidence for pets, making future visits easier and less stressful.

Early Preventive Care for Young Pets

The first year of life is a critical time for your pet’s health. Puppies and kittens require frequent check-ups, a series of vaccinations, deworming treatments, and, eventually, spay or neuter procedures. Through routine visits, our veterinarians monitor development, detect early signs of health issues, and offer guidance along the way.

Initial wellness visits often include:

We can give you tips for at-home care, such as introducing dental hygiene routines, choosing safe toys, and crate or litter box training. Talking with a veterinarian helps you avoid misinformation and gives you peace of mind as you navigate this exciting stage of pet ownership.

Microchipping is a Permanent Pet ID

Having your pet microchipped is a smart investment that lasts for life.

A tiny chip, inserted under the skin between your pet’s shoulders, contains a unique ID number that links to your contact information. If your pet ever gets lost in the future, shelters and veterinary clinics can scan for the chip and reunite you quickly.

Even if your puppy or kitten will primarily be indoors, unexpected escapes can happen. Collars and tags can fall off, but a microchip is permanent and reliable. At Queen City Veterinary Clinic, we can place a microchip during a regular appointment or at the time of spay/neuter surgery. It’s a quick procedure that we recommend for all puppies and kittens.

Exams for OFA Certification

For pet owners considering breeding or simply wanting to understand more about their pet’s long-term orthopedic health, our veterinarians perform exams and X-rays for OFA Certification (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). These evaluations are used to assess a pet’s risk of genetic conditions like hip dysplasia and are often required for responsible breeding practices.

We recommend timing OFA evaluations appropriately based on breed and age. Pets must often be 1-2 years of age in order to be certified. If you have any questions about this certification for your young pet, we welcome you to contact our clinic.
