Making The Compassionate Choice

You wish your pet could stay with you forever, but every companion will someday reach the end of their life. Queen City Veterinary Clinic offers compassionate support, honest guidance, and a peaceful, respectful goodbye when end-of-life care becomes necessary. We know how deeply you love your pet, and our goal is to help you make decisions that are best for your pet and your family.

End-of-Life Considerations for Cats and Dogs

When a pet reaches the later stages of life, it can be difficult to know what the right next step is. Aging, chronic illness, or terminal disease can significantly affect a pet’s comfort and quality of life. As a pet parent, you may wonder how to recognize when your furry companion is no longer enjoying their day-to-day activities or when pain or discomfort may be outweighing the good moments.

Our veterinarians welcome open, thoughtful conversations about your pet’s end-of-life needs. We can perform consultations to assess quality of life, explore treatment or hospice care options, and determine whether pet euthanasia may be the most compassionate choice. Some questions we may discuss together include:

Our staff is here to help you weigh these questions. We’ll never pressure you toward a decision, only support you with the information and care you need during this difficult time.

Euthanasia Services

End-of-life decisions regarding your pet are never easy.

If the decision is made to move forward with pet euthanasia, we will talk you through the next steps. Ask as many or as few questions as you are comfortable with. The procedure is performed with the utmost respect, beginning with a sedative to relax your pet so they feel no fear or discomfort. Once your pet is fully at ease, a second injection is given to allow them to pass quietly and painlessly.

If you would like to bring family or a friend for support, please do. We respect your wishes and will honor your bond with your pet.

Cremation Options for Pets

After euthanasia, you may choose private or communal cremation. With private cremation, your pet’s ashes are returned to you. Communal cremation involves respectful cremation with other pets, without ashes returned. We work with a trusted cremation partner, so that you can be assured that every pet is treated with dignity. If you have special requests or would like to discuss memorial options, we can assist you with some arrangements.
